Questions of the Week:  Do you like elephants? Do you like to eat eggs? (My favorite response:  "I like them if they are cooked, but not with the shell on.")

  • Electricity:  I tried to use an electricity kit to show how currents work...I thought I could do it without the help from my older son.  I was wrong...so next week we will successfully have some fun with electricity.
Math/Sequencing:  We practiced the concept of smallest, small, big, bigger,,, biggest by using magnetic elephants.

Diggin' Up Dinosaurs

Theme:  Letter "D"
So much fun with letter "D" this week!  I think our favorite "D" word is "Daddy!"

Choosing Time:  Play-Dough with "D" & Dinosaurs, Dinosaurs, Dragons, Dolls, Dress-ups, Dominoes...

Show & Tell:  Some of our friends brought a dragon, dollar, doll, dog, ...so fun to see.

Field Trip to Krispy Kreme Donuts:
We had a great time at Krispy Kreme!  We had fun in the Big Blue Bus looking for the letters A, B, C, & D!  This is a great Driving game.  The employees were so kind to answer many questions the kiddos had.  All were concerned when the donuts didn't flip over properly.  Some were also worried that going through the "wall" of frosting didn't coat the whole donut :)  All were super well-behaved and had an enjoyable experience.

Music & Movement:
  • Dinosaur Stomp
  • Duck, Duck, Goose
  • I'm So Glad When Daddy Comes Home
Snacks:
  • Donuts
  • Decorated Graham Crackers with Peanut Butter & Raisins
  • Donuts & Dried Fruit
Questions of the Week:
  • Do you like Donuts?
  • Do you like Dirt?
  • Do you like Ducks?
Writing:
  • We practiced writing "C" & "D".
  •  I posted some "D" words on a magnet board.  Some of the kiddos chose to "write" the words using ABC magnets.
  • We practiced writing our names by dabbing them with paint dots.
  • We practiced writing "Dad"

Game:  I put 8 dinosaur erasers into small plastic eggs labeled with the letter D.  There were lots of other empty plastic eggs with other ABC letters.  All of the eggs were buried in a large tub of sunflower seeds.  The kiddos were able to dig for a "D" egg and find a dinosaur to keep.  The only rule was that each child could only take one "D" egg.

Science:
  • What will happen to White Carnations when we put them into different colored water? It was fun to mix the 3 Primary and 3 Secondary colors to make a rainbow in our window sill.  We also kept one glass with clear water so the kiddos could compare the other carnations to the original white color. We also smelled the flowers before and after their color changes to see if the colors would change their smells.
  • We cut up old crayons and melted them to make new colorful crayons!  It was fun to design our own and magical to see how they went from hard bits to melted swirls and then back to hard, but this time it was one solid piece.
  • We baked a Cake together.  We mixed up a white cake mix.  I gave each child a small bowl filled with some of the white batter.  Each child chose which color they wanted to add to his/her bowl.  It was fun for me to watch them mix the colors.  I then dumped each bowl into a 9x13 and baked it.  Some predicted that the colors wouldn't stay, while others thought the colors would mix into one another.  We had fun seeing the final product and eating some too!

Snacks:
  • Crunchy Carrots & Cucumbers & Cheese Cubes
  • "Cookies"  (White Bread Cut into Circles and the kiddos added chocolate chips into the bread)
