Wild Thing?

Theme:  Letter W
We practiced writing and sounding out W and W words.  We think W should have been named double V.  :)  We enjoyed playing games with a World ball. We focused on W words such as: whale, water, world, we, wagon, whisper, wash, wild, watermelon,...

Choosing Time:  Wedgits, Wild Animal ABC sorting, What to Wear, World Puzzles,....

Questions of the Week:
  1. Do you like Watermelon?
  2. Do you like Water?  (You'd be surprised by all the answers to this....it was quite funny.  Some kiddos immediately said, "No," until I suggested that it could be the water we swim in or bathe in (and then some still said, "No.")  :)
  3. Are you a Wild thing?  (Also very funny answers)
Snacks:
  • Watermelon & Welch's Fruit Snacks
  • Mini Donuts & Strawberries

Have a VERY lovely Easter!

Theme:  Letter V
"Do you eat your Vegetables?"  There were some really funny responses to that question.  We took turns naming some veggies and then voting to see how many of us would like to eat them.  Carrots were the most popular veggie.  All the Green Veggies received mixed reviews :)  And, it is fascinating to me (even though I was the same way) how children HATE tomatoes and yet LOVE spaghetti sauce, ketchup, and pizza sauce.  The same thing with potatoes...several kiddos didn't want to eat potatoes, but when I asked them who likes chips and french fries, all of them screamed, "ME!"  When I told them those were potatoes, they stared at me dubiously.  We had a fun week!

Choosing Time:  Spelling "V" words, Vegetable & Spring time play dough, Very fast cars, Very big puzzles, ....

Snacks:
  • Vanilla Wafers & Veggies
  • Veggies & Animal Crackers
  • a Very interesting mix of popcorn, cereal, & goldfish :)
Science:
  1. What will happen if we put celery into a cup of blue-dyed water?
  2. Touch and learn about potatoes--feel the roots...
  3. What is a Vegetable?  Is it a Vegetable or a Fruit?
  4. Our plants are growing nicely.  We are excited to put them in a garden.

Theme:  Letter "U"
I placed several word pictures under the playhouse roof.  Each child chose a picture and then put it in the correct sound column.  Letter U makes two sounds. Some of the fun words we talked about were unicorn, unicycle, uno, up, underwear, under, Utah...

Field Trip Fun:  Thank you to Dr. Preston at 9th East Dental for a super fun field trip!  We were able to "ride" in the dentist chair, play a flossing & brushing game, and get our teeth counted.  We loved receiving a nice new toothbrush and timer!  It was a great field-trip!

Show & Tell:  Unicorn, & umbrellas (Huge success, thank you for sharing!)

Art:  Underground U's

Science:
  • How do seeds grow?  What do they need? We've been watching our seeds grow in our classroom.  The sunflower seeds sprouted first and then the bean seeds.  Even though the sunflowers were first, the beans are taller now.  The hollyhock seed is finally sprouting and we're still waiting for the pumpkin seeds. It is fun to have them in clear cups.  We can see the roots going down.
  • What happens underground?  What animals live underground?  Why?

Un-Birthday Party Fun:  We had a great time dancing, singing, playing, blowing our party blowers, wearing party hats, singing the un-birthday song, playing games, choosing prizes, and making an un-birthday treat :)

Cooking:  We made "Underground" Mud Cups with worms for our Un-Birthday Treat.  The kiddos had fun smashing the Oreos with a rolling pin.
